Paul Plaine and Terry Chamberlain met thirty-six years ago at Frenchy's Color Lab. Yes, there really was a Frenchy's Color Lab. At that time dye transfer prints were the ultimate in the photographic print world. Frenchy's Color Lab was one of a handful of professional photo labs in the world producing dye transfer prints along with custom C-prints, black & white prints, 8 X 10 and 11 X 14 transparencies. Given this opportunity to learn and master these photographic crafts, and to work closely with a broad-based clientele of artists, photographers, ad agencies and corporations, we developed a friendship and a passion for the business.
As the 70's were closing, digital imaging systems for print were beginning to be shown. It was at this time we could see the future and in 1987, we created the first high-resolution RGB digital imaging service in a professional color lab; a journey that has never stopped.
In 1999 we attended an exhibition of a photographers works which were printed using Epson's then - new archival ink jet 7000 and 9000 printers. Once again we could see the future, but this time it was different. It brought together all that we loved and learned over the years and it was taking us back to our roots as printmakers.
